The
children of Pierre De Lavoye and Jacquette Grinon
-
SUZANNE
was baptised on the 29th May 1650 at St-Étienne
d’Aytré. She enters into a marriage
contract with Jean Tesson, son of Barthélémy
and Marie Dusein, on the 24th August 1666 before
notary Becquet and the actual marriage is celebrated
at Notre-Dame church of Québec on the
13th September 1666. In the 1666 census, Jean
Tesson is mentionned as living at Ile d’Orléans.
This union will be short lived however and will
not produce any progeny; it’s unknown
where or when Jean Tesson actually passed away.
However, Suzanne de La Voye, widow of Jean Tesson,
enters into a marriage agreement before notary
Rabusson from La Rochelle, on the 27th of March
1669 with Pierre Guibert, son of Étienne
and Marguerite Giboulleau . Some sources suggest
that Pierre Guibert deceased shortly after his
marriage. Archange Godbout, in his « Émigration
Rochelaise en Nouvelle-France » mentions,
that in the papers of notary Teuleron of La
Rochelle was found an engagement contract for
Canada in the name of Pierre Guibert for the
year 1669. Following 1669, we find Suzanne de
La Voye in New France, married to Pierre Girard..
The information isn’t all that clear.
Some contend that this is the third marriage
of Suzanne, with a contract drawn up before
notary Rageot, document which is lost. Others
affirm that Pierre Guibert and Pierre Girard
are one and the same person! In the 1681 census,
we find Pierre Girard and Suzanne de La Voye,
properly married, in the company of their children,
in St-Augustin, of the Seigneurie de Maure,
owning 1 rifle, 5 beasts of burden and 12 arpents
of cleared land. This couple will produce 8
children of whom 6 will have roots in Québec,
the other two having deceased at an early age.
Suzanne de La Voye will die at the tender age
of 37, on the 24th July 1686, in Neuville. Her
husband Pierre Girard, will remarry in 1688
to Élisabeth Lequin, widow of Étienne
Léveillé; this couple will not
produce any children. Élisabeth will
be no more in 1700. Pierre Girard will himself
decease after 1710, at St-Augustin.

MICHEL
is an unknown son of Pierre and Jacquette Grinon.
See the engagement contract that Pierre de La
Voye had drawn before notary Becquet, dated the
3rd November 1670, with Michel Lecours, bourgeois
merchant, in Beauport... What happened to Michel
de La Voye is unknown. My extensive research has
been unable to find any trace of his whereabouts.

OLIVE,
born in Aytré, in 1654 (according to
her age when she deceased) or 1663 (according
to Jetté) was present at Cap-Rouge in
1667, with her father and sister Marie. She
is a servant working for Jacques Samson in 1681.
Olive enters into a marriage agreement before
notary Rageot, with Michel Fernet or Frenet,
on the 23rd May 1684 and the couple tie the
knot in the church of St-Augustin in Neuville
on the following 26th June. Michel was the son
of Michel and Christine Juneau, originally from
the region of Évreux in Normandie. In
the 1666 census, he is said to be residing at
Beaupré, is a sabot maker, and a servant
working for Bertrand Chesnay. In 1681, the census
tells us the he living in Neuville where 5 of
his children are born. Olive deceases at Cap-Santé
in 1729, at the age of 75.
-
MARIE,was
baptised on the 1st of April 1657 at St-Étienne
of Aytré. In 1674, the 24th April , Pierre
signs an agreement for her to work for 2 years
for Étienne Landeron (he is said to be
a pastry chef in Quebec, in the 1666 census),
this for her upkeep, her room and board and
50 £ in wages. Marie will marry Pierre
Grenon, son of Pierre and Marie Soseaux, on
the 16th February 1676, in Québec. They
will settle in the seigniory of Bélair,
dit les Écureuils. In 1681, the couple
own 1 rifle, 2 cows and have 6 arpents of cleared
land. Pierre and Marie will have 11 children
together. Marie will decease in 1727.
-
JEAN,
is born in Aytré near La Rochelle,
France. He arrives in the colony with his
parents around 1665-1666. In his marriage
contract, dated the 3rd of September 1690,
we read that: «Jean de La Voye soldier
in the château garrison of this city
(Québec) and resident of the seigniory
of Maure». In his actual marriage, dated
the 28th November 1690, we read « Jean
de La Voye, soldier of the garrison of fort
St-Louis of Québec ». Jean de
La Voye enters into wedlock with Barbe Lhomme,
daughter of the late Michel Lhomme and Marie
Valade (who will remarry with Jacques LeMeilleur).
The signing of the contract is made in the
presence of notary Genaple, on the 3rd of
September, and the religious ceremonies will
be celebrated in the church of St-François-de-Sales
of Neuville on the 28th November 1690. Their
first child will be born in 1691. His third
daughter will be born at Tilly (other name
for Villieu) and be baptised at St-Nicolas,
parish in the adjacent seigniory, i.e. seigniory
of Lauzon. If his son Jean-Baptiste was really
born in 1698 as we think he was, it was in
Tilly (or Villieu), that he was born. In 1700,
Jean de La Voye and Barbe Lhomme have 4 children;
their last two were born in 1701 and 1705
at Cap-de-la-Madeleine. After 1705, he returns
to the Quebec region, for in 1711, dated the
26th of August, the death registers of Hôtel-Dieu
of Québec mention the demise of Barbe
Lhomme, «arrived the 19th preceding
from the parish of Charlesbourg, aged 42 years.
We have no information of this kind concerning
the demise of Jean de La Voye. Some say 1714,
others 1714, and still others, 1724, as the
year of this death.

-
MARIE-ANNE,
In 1673, Pierre and Isabel have their first daughter
baptised on the 21th of January, at Notre-Dame
of Québec. She was born on the 10th of
January preceding. On the 13th of May 1687, Pierre
de La Voye, will provide her with a work agreement
before notary Gilles Rageot, for a duration of
5 years, for yearly wages of 36 £. Marie-Anne
will enter into a marriage contract before notary
Chamballon, dated the 6th April 1695, with Jean
Poitras, widower of the late Marie-Sainte Vié,
father of 17 children (of whom 8 deceased and
2 were married at the time of his marriage with
Marie-Anne). She will give him 10 additional children
at L’Ancienne-Lorette where the couple was
setled. Marie-Anne will decease in 1711, at L’Ancienne-Lorette
-
MADELEINE,
On the 12th of June 1674, Pierre and Isabel
have their second daughter Madeleine baptised.
She was born on the 2nd June preceding. On the
26th January 1689, Pierre hires her as a servant
to Louis de Laporte, who promises to feed, lodge,
upkeep, and pay her wages of 36 £, this
for a period of 4 years. While consulting the
PRDH, we can see that Madeleine de La Voye,
of Neuville, aged 14 years, was hospitalised
for one day at Hôtel-Dieu in Québec.
We don’t know why that was. Then we lose
track of her completely.
-
MARIE,
In 1675 we see the arrival of another daughter,
Marie, born on the 21st November at a place
called Rivière-aux-Roches, within the
seigniory of St-Augustin de Maure. She was baptised
on the 2nd December at Notre-Dame of Québec.
Similar to her sister Madeleine, she leaves
very little trace of herself in the Quebec archives.
In the PRDH, dated the 8th of November 1691,
we learn that Marie is hospitalized at Hôtel-Dieu
of Québec for a period of 23 days, for
reasons unknown. And, likewise, as her sister
Madeleine, Marie doesn’t seem to have
died at Hôtel-Dieu, for no mention of
her name appears in the death registers of the
hospital. Her trace disappears
-
PIERRE,
Pierre and Isabel return to Notre-Dame on
the 5th November 1676 for the baptism of their
first male child… Pierre, born on the
1st of November preceding, at Côte St-Ange,
within the seigniory of Maure. Unfortunately
this first son of Isabel and Pierre dies at
the age of 15, on the 29th May 1690; he is
buried the same day in Neuville.
-
VINCENT,
born on the 16th of October, is baptised on the
1st of November 1678 at Neuville. As his younger
brother Pierre, Vincent also dies at a young age,
24 years, on the 12th February 1702, and is buried
the same day in Neuville.
-
FRANÇOIS,
born on the 31st of October 1680, baptised on
the 4th of December of the same year. We know
that he was present during the 1681 census,
but have no trace of him following that date.

-
ROMAIN,The
birth of Romain, son of Pierre and Isabel Loppé,
is mentionned on the 3rd June 1684, at Côte
St-Ange, with a baptism on the 10th of June
following, at St-Augustin of Neuville. Romain
is the only male progeny from the union of Pierre
and Isabel to continue the family lineage. The
Lavoie family name, still present in this region,
is proof of that. He will enter into a marriage
contract before notary Rageot, with Marie Thérèse
Jean dit Denis, on the 5th November 1730 and
will marry the 13th of November following, at
St-Augustin de Neuville. This couple will have
3 children before Romain passes on in 1736.
His widow, Marie Thérèse Jean
dit Denis, daughter of Nicolas and Marie-Madeleine
Cliche, will enter into a 2nd marriage contract
on the 17th February 1738, with Charles
Tinon.
-
ÉLISABETH,
In 1686, Pierre and Isabel will have another
girl by the name of Élisabeth, who was
born on the 22nd March, and baptised on the
13th of April following in Neuville; she will
die but a few months after her mother, on the
14th March 1688.
